Our pipeline of products in the areas of pain and neurology are focused on once daily administration of centrally acting drugs with an initial focus in pain management and supported by our unique intellectual property in this area.Key attributes of our technology include:
- Tolerance - technology limits likelihood of developing tolerance to medications,
- Sleep Disturbance - technology may limit potential for sleep disturbance and night time confusion,
- Rebound or withdrawal - technology minimises issues of rebound or withdrawal on completion of treatment with medication,
- Targeted delivery - medication is targeted to reach therapeutic levels at time of highest or initial need,
- Optimised dosing to medical need - technology ensures therapeutic levels of medication when needed for an extended period of time during the day and minimises drug on board when not needed (i.e. at night time) thus ensuring that the patient only has therapeutic levels of drug on board when required with a potential to lower dosage, and
- Night time (PM) dosing - medication is taken at night time on going to bed while drug only reaches therapeutic levels in the waking hours when needed.
There are a range of conditions treated with centrally acting drugs where drug tolerance is an issue and where the highest disease state risk period and/or the time of initial need for therapeutic drug levels is in the waking hours. These conditions also require extended drug coverage for a period during the daytime. Traditional once daily products have not addressed the issues of tolerance and rebound (withdrawal) associated with certain centrally acting drugs. In addition, these once daily formulations have resulted in patients receiving therapeutic levels of drug at times when such levels may not be required. In many cases there is a high need for therapeutic drug levels starting on waking in the morning. The current option of taking medication on waking and waiting for it to reach therapeutic levels is not ideal or attractive to patients. As a result of these identified limitations, medical professionals have been reluctant to prescribe these drug classes more broadly.
Initial assessments have identified a number of attractive product opportunities not only in pain management but also in CNS indications such as morning anxiety and depression.
